We cannot thank all of our readers for your support of Dr. Lawrence Afrin’s ‘Never Bet Against Occam: Mast Cell Activation Disease and the Modern Epidemics of Chronic Illness and Medical Complexity’ throughout this past year. Since Never Bet Against Occam was published on March 15th, 2016, we’ve had a humbling journey. The journey to publishing a book which features the stories of several chronic illness patients, all of whom have one “not so rare” underlying link – Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS), was an exciting, yet daunting and unprecedented path to embark on. However, as a community, we’ve helped countless undiagnosed patients and empowered healthcare providers to think outside the box and connect seemingly unrelated dots.
As 2017 comes to a close, we wanted to make sure that we thank all of our readers, as well as the entire mast cell community, for coming together to help ensure that our community made several major steps forward in raising awareness, educating healthcare providers, and helping to facilitate understanding from those outside of immediate mast cell community. Together, we’ve helped increase the likelihood of a proper diagnosis of Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS), or another type of Mast Cell Disease. We’ve also helped patients within our community, in addition to the broader chronic illness and medical community, understand how and why mast cell disease is linked to numerous more commonly known chronic medical conditions. We’ve also helped provide the “missing links” on how and why MCAS *may* be linked to countless more. 96 five-star reviews on Amazon.com is quite telling!
Once again, Happy Holidays from the Mast Cell Research Team and best wishes for hope, strength, and perseverance to live well & thrive in 2017!
